Legislative Assembly
The Legislative Assembly of the Red Earth Cree Nation includes all members who are 18 years or older and are recognized as citizens according to the Red Earth Cree Nation Citizenship Act. This assembly serves as the main body where important decisions are made, ensuring that all members have a voice in the governance of their community.
All members represent a collective consent and authority to make decisions at the Legislative Assembly. All members have a right to protect and uphold our inherent rights and interests of Red Earth Cree Nation, ensuring that every family clan member and their descendants within the Nation has a voice in the community’s governance.
The Legislative Assembly is responsible for reviewing and approving laws, overseeing the financial management of the Red Earth Cree Nation, and ensuring that the rights and freedoms of its citizens are protected. It also monitors the development and management of the Nation’s resources, lands, and revenues, making sure that these are handled responsibly and in the best interest of the community.
In addition, the discussion and decisions at the Legislative Assembly provides guidance to the Chief, Council, and other government institutions. The Legislative Assembly meets at least twice a year to discuss and make decisions on these key issues, ensuring that the Red Earth Cree Nation is well-governed and that its citizens’ needs are met.
